flock dynamicscrossbreds

Over the years we have purchased several powerful wether sires that have resulted in the crossbred ewe flock we have today. Although these ewes are predominately Suffolk, it is not uncommon to find a little Hamp in their pedigrees. Below is a cross section of ewes that represent the strength of our flock.

You will notice that most of the pictures are of ewes right out of the field in their work clothes. Some pictures were taken after weaning lambs off and the ewes are not necessarily in peak condition. Others have a little more wool on them, but we are sure you will still see why we included them.

084

CORNERSTONE 084

084 is a tall, long, ultra thick ewe that handles like a rock. She is undeniably one of our best ewes and bred to be a wether momma. This ewe is destined to revival Oreo's performance success.

She is the dam of:
  • 2002 Top Replacement Ewe Lamb sired by Blue Print
  • 2002 Reserve Champion Market Lamb at Frederick County Fair by Blue Print
  • 2003 High Selling Wether in the Eastern Elite Sale by Jazz
  • 2003 Class Winner at the Clarke County Invitational Jackpot Show by Jazz
  • 2004 Top Selling Ewe Lamb in the Eastern Elite Sale by Stunner
  • 2005 Top Selling Ewe Lamb in the Eastern Elite Sale by Loco
  • 2006 Fancy Female by Draft Pick Sold to Shenandoah County, VA
084's maternal sister had twin ewe lambs in 2004 sired by Scooby (below) that will both be put back into the flock. Talk about maternal ewes... all are beautiful, massive, high volume sheep!

4907

CORNERSTONE 4907

We kept back only 5 ewe lambs in 2004... and both this ewe and her twin sister made the cut. Both maternal sisters to 084 (above), they are a balance between eye appeal and overall thickness. 4907, the broodier of the two, is a high volume ewe that is wide topped and exciting to the touch. Her twin sister, 4908, is a much prettier profiling ewe that is longer sided and has more extension through the front end.

4908 is the dam of:

CORNERSTONE 201

This ewe is out of the 084 ewe (pictured above) and Blue Print. Blue Print x Mac Daddy is definitely one of the most predictable crosses we have seen. As a matter of fact, results like this ewe, make us wish we had more Mac Daddy daughters.

Although this ewe is pictured in wool, she is a fancy profiling, cool fronted ewe with tremendous muscle shape and handles like a brick. She is one of our best percentaging ewes with over a 60+% hindsaddle. As a lamb she was one of the most popular ewe lambs in the barn. She is actually darker fleeced than the picture shows.

She is the dam of:
  • 2004 Ewe Lamb by Scooby Sold in Eastern Elite
  • 2005 Favorite Wether by Stunner Sold in Eastern Elite
  • 2006 Stout Wether by Maximus (pictured right)

CORNERSTONE 231

This will be the last Virginia Ice daughter to be added to our flock. We were fortunate to have the opportunity in the Fall of 2001 to breed a small group of ewes to him. Although most were wethered, we were very pleased with this little ewe. She's not big, but she is way too cool.

She is undoubtedly the thickest ewe we own and even as a mature ewe she handles hard and fresh. 231 is exceptionally straight in her lines, level hipped, and big butted. All that while remaining very chisel fronted and clean in her brisket. She may have a little more rib than many breeders would like... but she is the type of sheep that is easy doing and bred to be a market lamb maker.

She is the dam of:
  • 2004 Ewe Lamb by Scooby Sold in Eastern Elite Sale
  • 2005 Ewe Lamb by Jazz Sold and Shown in Virginia
  • 2006 Two Really Nice Wethers by Draftpick
One Headed to WV State Fair / Other Clarke County Fair

110

CORNERSTONE 110

110 is on track to be a top performer. She is a long hindsaddled ewe that is thick from end to end. She throws the perfect mix between total volume of muscle and showring style. 110 is the last ewe born out of our prolific 52 ewe that has left such an impact on our flock. And she is proving that she is more than able to pick up where her dam left off.

She is the dam of the:
  • 2002 Class Winner at the Clarke County Fair by Mac Daddy
  • 2003 Champion Carcass Lamb at the Clarke County Fair by Phat Cat (pictured right)
  • 2004 High Selling Ewe by Kid Rock at the VA Bred Ewe Sale
  • 2005 Wether by Stunner Placed 2nd at Jackpot / 1st at Clarke County / 3rd at VA State Fair
  • 2006 Ewe Lamb by Keota sold to Shenandoah County, VA / Wether Slated for VA State Fair

CORNERSTONE 224

224 is a beautiful profiling ewe that is clean fronted, long bodied, long hindsaddled, level hipped, with plenty of muscle. Jazz has worked well to pretty up some of our older genetics while still giving us plenty of muscle shape and thickness. This ewe, like many of his offspring, has a hard handling, explosive rack that pops to the touch.

She is the dam of the:
  • 2005 Wether by Stunner Placed 3rd at VA State Fair
  • 2006 Keeper Ewe Lamb by Keota

3852

We are very excited about this Phat Cat daughter. She is clean fronted, wide hipped, and explosive in the rack area. This ewe handles with lots of muscle and has a big grooved top. She will find a place in our flock for many years to come.

To show the strength of this cross, her twin brother, was one of our most exciting wethers in 2003.

She is the dam of the:
  • 2004 Keeper Ewe Lamb by Kid Rock
  • 2005 Keeper Ewe Lamb by Kid Rock
  • 2006 Two Keeper Ewe Lambs by Keota

451

CORNERSTONE 451

We are really excited about both the pedigree and the appearance of this stout young ewe. She is exceptionally long hindsaddled while keeping both muscle mass and shape. In addition she handles hard to the touch and is very expressively muscled in the lower leg.

2001 VA State Fair Her twin sister was a favorite ewe lamb in the 2004 VA Bred Ewe Sale and her maternal sister (sired by Blue Print) was a Division Winner at the 2001 VA State Fair (pictured right).

We can't wait for this ewe to hit her market momma stride!

Ellie

LOST ACRES 649

We are still undecided on whether we are more impressed with the way this ewe looks and handles or her pedigree. She is a massively muscled, long hindsaddled, big hipped, big butted ewe that always looks good. In addition, she ties together some of the best foundation club lamb genetics out there!

We had two powerful male lambs out of this ewe sired by Elmo (Houston x Dale). Elmo has sired numerous champions throughout the country including the Grand Champion Lamb at the 1999 and 2000 Indiana State Fair, Grand Champion Lamb at the 2000 Illinois State Fair and the Reserve Grand Champion Lamb at the 2002 Wisconsin State Fair.

She is the dam of the:
  • 2003 Stud Ram "Kid Rock" Sired by Elmo
  • 2003 2nd Place Wether VA State Fair (pictured right)
  • 2005 Awesome Wether for NAILE by Jazz

Cornerstone 304's Dam

304

304 was pictured on our web site previously as a lamb. We described her then as a large frame ewe that was grooved topped, exceptionally long hindsaddled, thick through her lower leg, and very complete.

As she has matured she has continued to get prettier and prettier. Although a little green in her photo, she is a ewe that at first glance is all looks... but get your hands on her and she won't disappoint you. She still carries a tremendous rack shape, width and length of loin, and a stout lower leg.

As many other ewes in our flock, 304 herself was a show lamb, winning her commercial ewe lamb class at the 2003 Virginia State Fair.

She is the dam of the:
  • 2005 3rd Place Wether by Kid Rock at the VA State Fair
  • 2006 Two Really Nice Wethers by Maximus

1455

OTT 1455

Ott 1455 is sired by Dale (a Hamp ram) out of a Train daughter and is the maternal sibling to the 2000 Grand Champion Lamb at Oklahoma State Fair. She is a moderate size, complete ewe that has style, thickness, and handles both hard and expressive in her muscle pattern.

If there is anything we would criticize about this ewe (if you call it that!) is her prolific nature. Without fail she has triplets each year. For 2006-2007 we will be syncronizing this ewe with several others to Loco hoping for November lambs.

Cornerstone 328's Daughter
CORNERSTONE 328

328 has been a cool little sheep since the beginning. Late born and never outshining her peers, she always held her own with a balance of muscle mass, length, and style.

Her first lamb to hit the ground was in 2005 and she promises to be a true market lamb momma. Her ewe lamb sired by Scooby was flat out one of the coolest fronted, squarest made, widest based lambs in the barn. This Hamp looking ewe lamb never looked bad and was an attention getter from all that visited!

If 328 continues like she started she'll earn her place in our flock quickly!

She is the dam of the:

  • 2005 2nd Place Lamb at VA State Fair by Scooby

314's Full Brother - Loco

CORNERSTONE 314

314 is a full sibling to our Loco ram. She is a very complete ewe that is a big framed, jack fronted, long bodied, and level in her design. She may not be massively muscled but she is hard handling with loads of style. She is definitely one that catches your eye in the pen.

She is the dam of the:
  • 2005 Blue Pelted Wether by Scooby 3rd Place at Jackpot Show
  • 2005 Wether by Scooby Slated for NAILE
  • 2006 Twin Wethers Sired by Keota - Both Slated for VA State Fair
