TO: Potential Consignors of the Virginia Bred Ewe and Lamb Sale
The Virginia Bred Ewe and Lamb Sale is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg, VA. The change in sale date from our traditional October date is in response to results from the survey of consignors and buyers at last year’s sale. With the move to December, we hope to have more ewes confirmed pregnant and a longer window of opportunity for marketing of the sale. Accordingly, please get your consignmentinformation to us by October 9, including photos. Information received by the deadline will be posted to the sale web site immediately.
Previous sales have been very successful, so the same general format will be followed.
- Aged ewes <5 years of age may be sold
- Sale order will now be Wether dams first (by breed, then crosses) followed by other breeds
- Opportunity to sell by pen. A pen of ewes would consist of 3 ewes of the same age, offered by one breeder as a single lot that sell for one money.
- We will again use the random draw sale order. Order will be Yearling ewes, ewe lambs then mature ewes (pens of ewes will sell within age division). Consignors with more than one lot per division will determine lot order for their own sheep.
- Lots are floored at the following prices at the sale -- Mature ewes $125, Yearlings $200, Lambs $150 unless the producer has other instructions.
NEW OPPORTUNITY >> Commercial Ewe - "Flock Building" Division
This division is open to non-wether dam or purebred "Exhibition" sheep. These ewes will be sold by the pen/lot in groups or 3 or 5 head. Ewes will be run as a group/lot into the sale ring (not individually handled) and sold by the head (3X or 5X the money depending on number in the lot). This could be a great opportunity for some producers to sell those ewes or ewe lambs that were planned for the State Commercial Ewe Lamb Program.
The sale is open to in-state and out-of-state consignors. This year, we are again welcoming wool and other breeds tojoin our sale so please encourage your friends and fellow breeders to participate. There are no restrictions concerning the ratio of yearlings and lambs sold. You may sell all yearlings, all lambs, or any combination of each. We do hope that everyone will make an effort to maintain the number of yearlings in this year’s sale.
All consignors are encouraged to send photographs of their entries along with their entry forms. We will again post entries and information to our web site (www.clublambs.com/vbes) to include a full catalog with photos (this site was well visited, and the pictured sheep were in demand).
A complete set of rules and regulations is enclosed along with a consignment form. Entries are due October 9th to be included in the catalog. Late entries will be accepted but entry fees will be doubled and they may not make the catalog or web site. We hope to see you at this year's sale! If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
Corey Childs (540-955-4663) and Laura Davis (540-421-3469), Co-Chairpersons
