   Those interested in consigning to the 2009 Virginia Bred Ewe Sale can contact Corey Childs or Laura Davis or print out the online Consignment Form. All consignment forms are due by October 9, 2009.
 
The Virginia Bred Ewe and Lamb Show and Sale is sponsored by the Virginia Sheep Producers Association. Catalogs can be requested by e-mail and will be sent as soon as available.
 
 
Rules and Regulations
 
  1. A straight across the board sale charge of 10% of sale price for in-state and 11% of sale price for out-of-stateconsignors will be used for the sale. A $20 non-refundable consignment fee will count towards the 10% member or 11% non-member charge. No-sales and sheep "bought back" will pay sale expenses based on floor price or "buy back" price. An additional $4.00 fee per head will be required to (help) cover the cost of ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis and will be deducted from the sale proceeds of each lot scanned along with $1 for the sheep check off program.
     
  2. Only mature ewes (<5 years of age, healthy, functionally sound, no udder, mouth or feet problems) yearling ewes, and ewe lambs will be sold. The VBES sale committee reserves the right to sift inferior type quality/unsound ewes fromthe sale.
     
  3. All mature ewes and yearlings must be guaranteed bred. Ewe lambs may be bred and all exposed ewe lambs will be ultrasounded on sale day to determine status. All ewes determined pregnant via ultrasound will be sold guaranteed bred as of the date of sale. No further guarantee is implied. If a mature or yearling ewe is not confirmed pregnant via ultrasound on sale day (bred late), and does not lamb prior to May 1st, 2010, the breeder is obligated to refund 20% of the purchase price or work out some other arrangement with the buyer.
     
  4. Health papers - A health paper must accompany each ewe in order to qualify for interstate shipment. IF YOU HAVE FIVE EWES YOU NEED TO BRING 5 COPIES or have individual papers on each ewe. All sheep consigned from Virginia Certified Health Flocks need a certificate of Veterinary Inspection. Each individual animal must have a US scrapie program identification tag and be identified by its scrapie tag or tattoo. All health certificates should include a statement from the inspecting veterinarian which reads:
     
    The flock has been inspected and has been found free of Scabies, Sore Mouth,
    Hoof Rot, and/or other infectious disease in the last 30 days.

  5. Registration papers (on purebred sheep) must be properly filled out with breeding information and submitted before numbering for all purebred sheep. Appendix registered sheep will sold as X-breds. No Papers - No Sell - No Exceptions. Purebred ewes with no papers can sell as crossbreds. Any crossbred wether dams deemed of inappropriate type by the sale committee will not be sold.
     
  6. Substitutes are permitted in the same class.
     
  7. All sheep must be clean, and in desirable condition either slick shorn or with fleeces not exceeding one inch in length (except wool breeds which can use breed standards).
     
  8. Ewes may arrive after noon on Friday, December 4th and should be in place by 6pm. Upon approval from the sale manager, sheep may arrive Saturday morning and must be in place by 9am Saturday for ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis (results will be posted before the sale). Animals will be numbered before the sale begins.
     
  9. Bring your own bedding.
     
  10. The sale begins at Sale Begins at 1:00 pm Sale order is as follows: Wether Dams, Dorset, Columbia, Cheviots, Montadale, Southdown, Hampshire, Suffolk, and Wool or Other Breeds followed by the Commercial Division.
